December 18, 2010 – AsiaOne - Paul Heng - Singapore

'Now that I have been performing the most senior role in Asia for the past eight years, what's next?'

'Now that I've listed my business, and handed over the reins to my CEO, what's next?'

'Now that I've been running this business successfully for my employer for the past decade, should I take that quantum leap into entrepreneurship?'

'For the first time in my 25-year career, I am being outplaced. What shall I do next?'

THESE are just four possible scenarios that may prompt leaders to seek the expertise of a life coach.

Coaching has been around for centuries, in various forms and shapes. Given the challenges of the world we live in today, life and executive coaching is fast becoming much more known and prominent here in Asia. Companies have, over the past half a decade, or even longer, increasingly sought the input of coaches. Some have experienced much success, while others swear never to mention the word 'coach' again!

The retail market for coaching i.e. self (versus corporate) sponsorship is in its infancy - the litmus test being not too many people are willing to fork out the hundreds of dollars, and sometimes even four-figure fees, for a professional coach. Read Story.

December 17, 2010 – Mashable - Anthony Rotolo

Anthony Rotolo is a professor at the Syracuse University School of Information Studies and cofounder of enormo.us, a storytelling company that specializes in social media, animation and interactive design. This post was co-authored with Dabney Porte, who is a life coach, social media consultant and international speaker. She is the host of the Twitter chat #smmanners where she educates her following on social media manners.

As self-identified social media addicts, we recognize that not everyone shares our passion for tweeting, posting and checking in. We value these activities because they help us stay informed, share our work with others and build networks of meaningful relationships. But with the holiday season upon us, many will be reconnecting with family and friends who do not use social media in the same way. We can’t help but wonder if some of our loved ones might consider our connected lifestyles to be strange, or worse, rude.

Some family members who have not connected with us through social media may be less familiar with the work and interests we share with our online communities. Even our longtime friends may embrace us as who we’ve always been rather than the person we’ve become since our last holiday together. This disconnect can leave us searching for conversation starters at holiday parties or looking like a Grinch as we take refuge behind our iPhones. Read story.

December 12, 2010 - Danville Commercial News - Mary Wicoff

Ever since she was a little girl growing up in Hoopeston, Evelina Solis has understood the power of words.

“You can help or hurt people,” said Solis, 30, now a certified life coach, inspirational speaker and TV/radio personality in Texas. “If you use inspirational words, you can change people’s lives.”

But, with negative words, she said, “They cut and they hurt and they open up wounds.”

Solis chooses to use her words to enhance people’s lives, and those messages are being heard across the country.

Plus, her own remarkable story of surviving serious health problems is getting attention. Her story is one of 33 featured in the book, “Aim High: Extraordinary Stories of Hispanic and Latina Women” by Laura Contreras-Rowe. And this month, Ujima Magazine in Austin, Texas, came out with an article about her. Read story.

December 11, 2010 - Gaston Gazette - Ragan Robinson - USA

It might have been a few years since anybody at work even sniffed a bonus. But employers haven’t given up on one holiday reward – the office party.

“Businesses are still having parties,” said Tony Marder, Gastonia’s ActionCoach business coach.

“Some have a regular sort of social after-hours event. Some do it quarterly. This is a good time for those because employers want to congratulate the team.”

Good employees won’t make their bosses regret the reward. Smart ones will see professional prospects in social settings.

We recruited Marder, along with Etiquette Edge founder and director Julie Roberts for help on handling the office holiday party. Read more.

December 10, 2010 - Tracy Press/Our Town - Dianna Good - USA

By now, waistbands have returned to their original shapes, family members are back in their own homes and most of us are back to our daily routines. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because people stop what they’re doing and come together with family and friends to celebrate life. Interestingly, we are usually happiest when we are thankful and allow ourselves (not our bodies) to expand. If you ever find yourself in resistance, holding back from others or from life, I have a fun challenge you may want to try.

Just for today, I challenge us to continue to live in that spirit of thankfulness, where we expand rather than contract, give more than we receive and pull ourselves up to a higher consciousness. It is so easy to go back to our daily habits and let gravity pull us back to our littleness; to feel bombarded with the negative world news and want to contract, to cocoon; it is so easy, some of you already feel that Thanksgiving was a long time ago, even though it has only been two weeks!

There are only two ways to live: from love or from fear. Consciously or unconsciously, we make this decision every day. Choose to live a life from love today. See today as an opportunity for greatness, which every one of us has inside us. It may seem to be a stretch to think this, but it is really a small shift in thinking from survival to significance. Read story.

Setting goals and creating change is not easy. Yes, it is fairly simple to write the next day's goals on a "to do" list and sometimes accomplish the majority of them. But, when it comes to achieving a goal that can make a huge difference in our lives, it's often a challenge. I'm speaking of goals like changing a job or pursuing your passion. Your goal could also be dealing with a physical abuse issue, a bullying problem or letting go of a damaging relationship or healing a present one. The list goes on.

Seventeen years after it last revamped its curriculum, Wharton unveils a bold course restructuring that will emphasize flexibility, ethics, and globalization.

For the first time in 17 years, the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, one of the world's premier MBA programs, has announced a significant overhaul of its curriculum, shifting everything from the structure of required classes to how executive education is delivered. The curriculum change, which will be partially rolled out in the fall of 2011 and fully executed in the fall of 2012, was approved by approximately 87 percent of the faculty in a vote today, a school spokesperson told Bloomberg Businessweek.

One of the cornerstones of the curriculum overhaul is a new commitment by the school to offer an executive education course to MBA graduates free of charge once every seven years. The Wharton School (Wharton Full-Time MBA Profile)will be the first top school to do this, making a lifelong pledge to its graduates, says Dean Thomas Robertson.

"We can educate our students for today but that doesn't mean that 20 or 30 years from now—or even less—they won't need skills in another area," says Robertson. "We think that is a breakthrough. We're making a major commitment to our students." Read more.
