This book by Harry McKnight is an introduction to the Sylva Mind Control Method, which is described as entering the kingdom is the key: “the message is working according to lawful relationships and allowing everything you need to come to you and yours.” (p. v) This sounds like the law of attraction to me. Mind Control, in lay words, is about going to a deep meditative level where you can train your own mind to take charge, bringing you the results you want.

Jose Silva, who created the Silva Mind Control Method, was a lay researcher who studied the psychology greats as well as parapsychology. He wrote his book The Silva Mind Control Method in 1977, though he had been teaching his method since 1963 in Mexico, and 1966 in the United States. He would begin his workshop with some words about the current state of brain research (what we now call neuroscience), and then show a chart on the Scale of Brain Evolution.

Some of the topics convered in Jose Silva’s book are: How to Meditate, Dynamic Meditation, Improving Memory, Speed Learning, and Creative Sleep. He also describes how your words have power as well as the power of imagination. These approaches are used by many coaches in working with clients.

Dr. Vikki Brock, MCC, is Team Lead for the one-of-a-kind Virtual Museum of Coaching here at The Coaching Commons. Based on interviews about the evolution of coaching with over 175 coaching 'influencers' she also contributes mightily to our Coaching Hall of Fame.
