Coaching’s “Force of Nature” and How She’s Maximizing Business on Facebook

The folks who know Atlanta coach Wendy Y. Bailey describe her as a “force of nature.”

“Her passion, commitment and unyielding support is unparalleled,” said Gladys Anderson. “She not only shares generously her knowledge, resources and tips to her community of learners, she is a trendsetter, a visionary and beacon within the coaching community.”

Bailey–whose friends and fans all call her “Wendy Y”–says her philosophy is all about helping coaches develop thriving businesses: “It’s about transformation, baby!”

And a lot of that transformation happens in live classes on Facebook–a new application that Bailey helped design.

“She is definitely a trendsetter,” said Lou Bortone, one of Bailey’s 2,010 fans on Facebook. “I love that she is always discovering new ways to enhance her coaching. Wendy Y is one of the most tech-savvy people I know.”

“Trendsetter” is a word that comes up often when Bailey’s fans talk about “Wendy Y,” who’s built on the basic social networking toolbox of website and blog to include podcasts, videos, and live programs.

“Wendy Y always over-delivers,” said Monikah Ogando. “She is quite the trendsetter when it comes to integrating and synthesizing web tools and making it easy to understand. And she’s taking Facebook by storm with her Group Coaching Interactive TV.”

Group Coaching Interactive TV is Bailey’s weekly “live coaching show” where prospective clients or just interested observers—and fellow coaches—can tune into easily right on Facebook.

“I was approached by the developer in October about creating an application in Facebook, just for Group Coaching Mastery,” said Bailey. “I viewed a few other applications they’d built before and said absolutely! It was an easy decision because I love technology and innovation. I’m actually the first person to have the application on Facebook under the Linqto company. I’ve found the application fun and easy for the consummate multi-tasker that I am. Since I teach NLP (neuro-linguistic programming), the application gives me multiple ways to share information for all types of sensory learners. That’s a huge part of what NLP is all about.”

For Bailey, it’s a chance to work on the cutting edge of coaching—creating new ways for coaches to define their niches and build their businesses.

“I played around with the application quite a bit before my first live show. It was important for it to have the right look and feel for what I want to convey around group coaching,” said Bailey. “I also launched it during the holidays so the pace was slower and easier for me too.”

Bailey promotes each episode on her Facebook fan page and on Twitter. And she says it seems to be a hit.

“The response so far has been great,” she said. “Our attendance and participation grows a little every week and I’m building amazing relationships with those who attend regularly.”

And the folks who keep coming back rave about the coaching community that Bailey’s building on Facebook. “I’m not sure when she ever sleeps as her mind is always focused on what else she can give to her community of learners,” said Carol Dombach Deckert. “She is a true guru – sharing value and tips, freely with all of us and quickly adapting to new trends as soon as they are available.”

The lure, fans say, is as much the messenger as the message. “Personally, it isn’t just the knowledge I am gaining that is so valuable. It is her presence that creates the learning opportunities that allow me to increase my own capacity to live a full and meaningful life,” said Winifred Quire Giddings. “I am excited to be in her circle of learners.”

And Bailey, who’s working on new ways to advance her next-generation coaching tools on Facebook, says she never feels like it’s work.

“I love group coaching! The platform affords me the opportunity to share that passion with more coaches, speakers and trainers. How kewl is that?!”
