May I add another question:
as many of my clients need to reflect on how to “think out of the box”, I often ask them:
“what is impossible to do today (in your company) which has never been done before, that could truly change the way things are done here”?
all the best,
Maureen
Thanks for an excellent list. Here are a couple of powerful additions.
What is the question that if you knew the answer, would set you free?
~ Peter Block
What are you looking to create?
Thanks Emma-Louise for adding to our wonderful list – perhaps there is a coaching book in this collection!
From a Thought Leader Gathering session with Peter Block years ago I gleaned the following expressions and question.
expression – holding our gifts in exile.
question – What gift are you holding in exile?
The other learning from that session was:
The answer to HOW is yes.
because when you ask “how,” you have already begun dismissing the idea.

Thanks for your kind words Linda!
Yes, I’ve been thinking about creating a Coaching Questions ebook as a freebie. I think I could do it in a day or two if I just lowered my expectations… That’s a great Coaching Question too – “What if you lowered your expectations?”
So, among many other things I want to do… Will let you know!
Keep up all the good work here!
Warmly, Emma-Louise
Great list, and I love your Company Challenge Q. Maureen!
One I can add ” If we were to wave a magic wand what would happen?
Hi Linda, Always nice to see the power of questions ?????? All questions should be… QUALITY questions…the mind will then provoke the Universe to find the answer as long as one is open that it exist out there somewhere and it is coming. Question to add: Is what your living really TRUE?
Blessings,
Rev. Roger
Great list – great page.
Q. Who would you make look good if you were God.
I learned a technique in my many years with the automotive industry and I find it to also be a useful tool in coaching. It is a simple little question but, when asked five times, can bring a client to the core of their issue and, once there, things fall into place quickly. The question: “Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?” Wait for the client’s answer after each “Why?”. As we all know, the thing that seems to be the issue is often only a surface indication of something much deeper.
Thanks a lot for usefull coaching questions! It helps the people all around the world. Also in Czech republic
Regards!
Thanks everyone for the great coaching questions! A couple that I have learnt from my yoga practice:
- How are you breathing right now? (Gives an indication of feelings. Short, shallow = fear, stress, anxiety)
- What is happening in your mind right now? And now? And now?
- Where are the energy leaks in your day?
