Post-Conference Update: 15th Annual European Mentoring & Coaching Conference

I had the fortune to attend the 15th Annual EMCC conference in Prague between December 4-6, 2008. About 250 people attended the conference – as an American I was definitely in the minority and loved it. The sessions spanned ethics and supervision to Gestalt and self-deception in coaching. I presented on “Professional Challenges for the Coaching Field: A Historical Perspective.”

What was exciting for me was meeting some of the key influencers from Europe that I had interviewed for the PhD dissertation research. I met both David Megginson and David Clutterbuck (founders of the EMCC in 1992) as well as Julie Hay (outgoing EMCC president), Elaine Cox, Peter Bluckert and many other European leaders in the coaching field.

For our Gala Dinner we dined in the castle on the hill. Check back later for pictures of the entertainment, including the professional belly dancers and attendees conga line.

Dr. Vikki Brock, MCC, is Team Lead for the one-of-a-kind Virtual Museum of Coaching here at The Coaching Commons. Based on interviews about the evolution of coaching with over 175 coaching 'influencers' she also contributes mightily to our Coaching Hall of Fame. Though some may consider 'The History of Coaching' a dry topic, Vikki believes 'the roots determine the fruits' and promises the museum won't be a stuffy place. Vikki is also the only executive and leadership coach we know who supports clients from a 50 foot sailboat named Cuidado, moored in Ventura, California next to the Channel Islands National Park.
