My name is Marsha Crownover and I am the executive director of The Coach Approach. (http://www.coachapproachinc.org) I spent many years working in the nonprofit world, and always felt there was a need to support individuals who have chosen this profession.
Once I became familiar with coaching, (and I am not a coach) I knew this was an idea worth pursuing. So after writing the 501c3 and receiving a seed grant from the Harnisch Family Foundation, we were in business. Our mission is simple: To provide support to people in the helping profession through coaching.
We have just completed our second year. This past year 60 individuals were coached representing 42 nonprofits. The response from the nonprofit professionals has been tremendous. Evaluations are positive. We feel the trickle down effect is so significant that it will be ever changing to society!
So I pose this new idea, do you think that supporting our teachers through individual coaching could impact public education?

Hi Marsha,
Hooray for supporting for the many wonderful people in the nonprofit world! These helping professionals do significant work that is woven into our daily lives. Too often their work is viewed as mundane and the brilliant, dedicated people who signed up for it are taken for granted. They slip into a long, deep trench that goes from mild fatigue to burnout.
I’m with you 1000% on coaching at all levels in public benefit organizations!
And, with a broad brush, I assert that coaching could be the imperative – the next mandate perhaps – for individually and collectively supporting students, teachers, staff and administrators in public education. Coaching just may be the most respectful and acknowledging breath of fresh air that can revive public education. What else will keep our teachers inspired enough to stay in the profession? What will keep our students engaged in learning?
