“I need to get organized. I need someone to teach me how,” she said.
“I need to find out the purpose of my life. I just don’t seem to have a purpose anymore.”
Barker’s tale is too familiar in today’s workplace.
She spent almost 20 years in various positions at the Orange (Calif.) Caregiver Resource Center, one of 11 agencies established by the state to assist families of brain-impaired adults.
She had risen to the position of community education assistant. She planned events and workshops and registered caregivers at the resource center attached to St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton, Calif.
Barker’s tale is not unusual, says Joan Stavale of Breakout Life Coaching in Corona del Mar, Calif.
“We get stuck, in one way or another, and our energy is drained and our belief in ourselves becomes limited,” she said. “The important message is ‘You Can Have a Dream’ and ‘You Can Live Your Dream.’”
