Chicago Sun-Times: Best Tip for Job Seekers? Get Out of the House

For those struggling through unemployment, getting into the spirit of the holidays can be a challenge. But shaking off the jobless blues during the holiday season is a must, job coaching and staffing experts say.

Their advice: Get out of the house.

“Do not hole up in your house and spend your time alone,” said Judith DeVries, an executive coach at Chicago-based outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas. “It’s not good for you. You tend to become depressed, and then you can’t put your best foot forward” in your job search.

While being out and about, take advantage of the opportunity to network, she added because “You never know who you’re going to meet that could be a connection into a job. Tell as many people as you can that you are in transition and that you’re looking, and briefly what you’re looking for.”
