Before the Meatpacking District became ultracool, clothing designer Jussara Lee opened a small store on Little W. 12th St. next door to Pastis, the chic eatery glamorized on “Sex and the City.”
Lee has become a fixture in the neighborhood, selling her expensive, made-to-order men’s and women’s clothes to stylish, quality-conscious customers.
But recently the 41-year-old, Brazilian-born designer jumped into a cab for a short trip that seemed worlds away: a no-frills room in the Jacob Javits Federal Building.
Lee was among 80 business owners who came to get free, one-on-one advice in a 30-minute coaching session sponsored by American Express and Score New York, a nonprofit affiliated with the U.S. Small Business Administration staffed mostly by retired execs volunteering their time.
