Last week I attended a presentation on financial planning for retirement with my husband. I was prepared to feel a little naïve, or a little freaked out, but was looking forward to focusing on the subject together.
The two guys who ran it seemed to have their act pretty polished. They gave us a nice binder of material. I liked the room, a small auditorium with platform seating and comfortable chairs. And yet, I felt so disconnected and annoyed by the presentation that even the first few minutes were almost unbearable.
My first reaction was to eat an entire bag of Goldfish crackers, but it didn’t make the evening more tolerable. Then my professional instincts took over (if only they would kick in first, sometimes!) As a business coach, I decided to wait and observe what the presenters were doing wrong so that I could share it with you. Maybe it will help someone avoid making the same mistakes.
