After picking up a glass of wine and a name tag at the bar, everyone was assigned to a curved booth. At the sound of the bell, each person had two minutes to introduce themselves to a stranger. The lights were dimmed and there were candles, but it wasn’t speed-dating.
It was speed-friending.
In a social networking age when it’s effortless to claim hundreds of friends, the 30 women gathered after work at Roe lounge in San Francisco were looking to start authentic friendships by meeting face to face.
Ordained pastor and life coach Shasta Nelson, 33, launched GirlfriendCircles.com this summer, after realizing that it’s possible for women to find jobs, dates or apartments online but that there wasn’t a way to find simple friendship.
