The Chronicle of Coaching – News of the Week – December 11, 2008

by

Editor’s Note: With the recent accusations surrounding Illinois Governor Blagojevich back-room dealings and New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Buress’ ill-fated gun possession, controversy and scandal are all over the news. As this week’s Chronicle of Coaching shows, the coaching industry is not immune from creating a little controversy of its own. The United Kingdom’s Home Secretary drew attention for spending ¬¨¬£2000 in taxpayer money on executive coaching sessions, while an elementary school principal is given a coach and leadership courses… at a hefty cost to the public. At Planned Parenthood’s branch in Indiana, a nurse was suspended for giving ‘abortion coaching’ to a presumed 13-year old. One coach thinks he has a way to weed out athletes prone to creating controversy before they enter the league. An executive coach says he has the solution for businesses to come out ahead during a global recession: spend, spend, spend. Have a fantastic mid-December week! ~ Alex Goldsmith
The Chronicle of Coaching provides a snapshot of what’s happening in the coaching profession, designed to show where and how coaching appears in the popular culture worldwide. It is not intended to be a summary service nor a news roundup, although it may serve that purpose for some readers. The Chronicle is new each Thursday morning. Compiled and edited by Alex Goldsmith, Linda Ballew, and Ruth Ann Harnisch.
