The Chronicle of Coaching – News of the Week – March 5, 2009

Editor’s Note: Losing a job can be scary. Losing a coach to suicide is disturbing. In this week’s Chronicle, coaches in both business and life coaching tackle the times head-on, perhaps helping you and your clients do the same. A life coach in Israel recommends a healthy dose of optimism in the wake of a layoff. A business coach who lost her job was motivated to turn a side business into a full-time pursuit. Jobless and looking for coaching? A career coaching company in New York will donate their services to a handful of unemployed workers. Seattle coaches have a lot of advice for those experiencing a rainy day in the career world – one coach says learning from a dismissal can help find your next job, while another advises a vacation may help you reassess your life – if you can afford it. Here in the Chronicle, you’ll see that coaches are providing encouragement, resources, optimism, and one-foot-in-front-of-the-other steps to help people in crisis. Yet coaches are not immune to crisis in their own lives.

The Chronicle of Coaching provides a snapshot of what’s happening in the coaching profession, designed to show where and how coaching appears in the popular culture worldwide. It is not intended to be a summary service nor a news roundup, although it may serve that purpose for some readers. The Chronicle is new each Thursday morning. Compiled and edited by Alex Goldsmith and Linda Ballew.
