Happy hour isn’t just about two-for-one drink specials and free appetizers. Depending on how you behave, it can be a springboard for your career or an invite to the unemployment line.
Going out to a bar or restaurant after work with co-workers can be a good way to blow off steam but it can also be a good time to network, if you treat the event as a professional one, said Gary Jacobs, managing partner of E2 Recruiting, Inc. of Tampa, a company that connects employers with employees.
“The people in your personal network are 90 percent of the time going to get you your next job,” Jacobs said.
Happy hour is a networking event, he said, and knowing how to behave correctly is essential to being successful.
