Excellent facilitation skills are a leadership essential for business today.

Q: I would like to improve my facilitation skills for meetings I conduct at the office. What would you recommend I do?

A: Excellent facilitation skills are a leadership essential for business today. Having an understanding of a few easy and basic techniques can go a long way toward improving your comfort in this area.

The first thing to remember is your audience has three major learning styles and your job is to ensure that you are addressing them all:

- Visual learners (approximately 65 per cent of the population) take in information with their eyes.

- Auditory learners (about 30 per cent of the population) absorb information with their ears. This includes listening as well as talking.

- Kinesthetic learners (approximately five per cent of us) take in information best through interaction with others and through writing.

Considering that the greatest number of people are visual learners, it’s surprising that most meetings are devoid of visual-learning stimuli.  Read story.
