The Province: Pregame Nerves: Printers Phones His Life Coach

Casey Printers hadn’t started a CFL game in almost a year; had just four weeks of practice to prepare for this outing; and was leading a team he’d left under a black cloud four years before heading into the CFL’s most hostile environment.
But Printers also had an ally in his time of need, and while it’s hard to believe one man can make that much of a difference in an athlete’s life, it doesn’t matter what you or I believe.
It’s what Printers believes, and right now, he believes in Ray Perras the way a five-year-old believes in Santa Claus.
“I called him the night before the Saskatchewan game,” Printers says. “I was nervous. I didn’t know what was going to happen. He just said, ‘You’re going to be lights-out.’
“I have a life coach,” Printers continues. “He’s shaped my life to believe everything is possible. If you go into a situation and think you’re going to be average or rusty or whatever, then that’s what you’ll be.
