A Government waste watchdog spent more than £3m in one year on life coaches, hotels and driving lessons for its staff, newly released documents have shown.
Officials at the Audit Commission, whose website bears the motto “protecting the public purse”, spent tens of thousands of pounds with training firms that use techniques such as firewalking and weekend retreats.
The commission, whose job is to slash waste in the public sector, also employed a psychologist to analyse potential recruits. It provided free driving lessons with the AA to staff who had had car crashes, citing health and safety responsibilities. Read story.
